Our story: empowering families, transforming futures

Discover the passion, purpose, and unique approach behind Resilient & Empowered Minds, A Henderson Initiative, LLC. We are dedicated to supporting parents and caregivers of justice-involved youth in Columbia, South Carolina, and beyond.

Our inspiration: a journey of support and understanding

Resilient & Empowered Minds was created from a deep passion for helping families navigate one of the most challenging seasons of their lives. Throughout our education and professional journey in psychology, behavioral health, and juvenile justice, we recognized that parents and caregivers of justice-involved youth often receive very little guidance, even though they are among the most important influences in a young person's rehabilitation. We saw that many families were overwhelmed, discouraged, and unsure of how to support their child while balancing accountability, healing, and hope. Too often, they were given consequences to enforce but not the tools to understand trauma, strengthen communication, or rebuild trust within the family. That realization inspired us to create Resilient & Empowered Minds; A Henderson Initiative, LLC, a place where families can access practical, evidence-informed education and compassionate support.

What makes our training unique?

Many parenting programs provide general advice or focus only on managing behavior. Resilient & Empowered Minds takes a different approach by equipping parents and caregivers of justice-involved youth with practical, trauma-informed strategies that address the root causes of behavior while strengthening family relationships. We believe that when caregivers are empowered with knowledge, confidence, and practical skills, they become one of the strongest protective factors in a young person's life. Our goal is not only to reduce recidivism but also to help families build healthier relationships, stronger communication, and a foundation for lasting success.

Bringing positive change: our vision for families

At Resilient & Empowered Minds, our vision extends beyond reducing recidivism. We strive to help families build stronger relationships, restore hope, and create change that impacts future generations. We hope every parent and caregiver leaves our training with greater confidence, practical skills, and the belief that they can positively influence their child's future. Rather than feeling overwhelmed, they will learn to communicate more effectively, set healthy boundaries, respond to challenging behaviors with confidence, and foster safe and supportive home environments. For youth, we hope to strengthen the protective factors that help them succeed, not only by reducing the likelihood of future justice involvement, but by helping them develop resilience, emotional regulation, healthy decision-making skills, accountability, and positive relationships. Every young person deserves the opportunity to learn from their past, discover their strengths, and believe that their future can be different.
